#Inscryption arg mod
I'll probably dig into Kaycee's mod once it's out of beta mode. I don't seek out card games but this one was pretty fun. One of my favorite things in media is when it changes what it's about half way through, especially if it changes aesthetically as well. I'm glad games like this are being made and are getting adequate attention. This is good because it can be balanced in a way that yields more surprises than if it was just focused on being a traditional rogue-like deck builder. It's an inherently linear single-player experience, for it to work in a roguelike or multiplayer format the game would need to be re-tooled. The card game mechanics by themselves aren't enough to carry a game, however It's how often the game throws in little changes and gimmicks along with it's progression system that makes it work. Once act I ended the game kept being interesting, but left behind a different version of this game I might have liked more. I was a bit saddened to soak up all the content in Act I in just a few hours. The Tertiary puzzles are good, but would have been more impactful if they were more involved and if the game gave you less hints.

Maybe this would have been best as just an expanded Act 1, I'm not sure how much all the ARG stuff really enhances the experience. The way the game changes hurts it's difficulty curve, the game gets progressively easier.Īct one was the best, Act two was good, Act three dragged on a little. But everything in Act I, tone and gameplay, is superior. (spoilers ahead) Found footage stuff generally doesn't interest me, but I like how it was done here. Because of this it didn't really stick with me, like something like Undertale did, but it was entertaining while it happened. I don't know how much it's *saying* beyond being intrinsically entertaining. Multiple layers of meta contextualization layer over each other without being overly confusing. There's a lot of interesting things going on with Inscryption. I have enough of virtual card games for a lifetime.
#Inscryption arg skin
Even the thought of having to endure another single card game inside this world, interspersed with FMV nerd, makes my skin crawl. It is there that I finally stopped playing. In what way do I have to beat them, you may well ask? By playing cards! Again! But now, I even have to use the right deck for each of them! It quickly turns out that I, having been through my personal card game hell during the previous hours, have now not only one, noooo, but four new adversaries to beat.

A totally different game pops up in the style of early JRPGs. Only to be forced to watch a cringy FMV nerd unwrapping… yes, more cards! WTF. (How did everybody else beat this game so much quicker?) I was soooo relieved and really excited to finally see the supposedly cool meta story everybody was talking about.

However, I really liked the art style, sound effects and music.Īfter 12 (!) frickin hours of dying and save scumming I finally beat that guy Leshy. The really uninspired puzzles inside the cabin seem to come directly from 1993’s The 7th Guest. Yeah, I know that’s the point, kind of, but there is a difference between well-meant and well done. The card game in the beginning seems nice at first, but it’s just this, a card game, and much too random for my taste. It was one of my most tedious, arduous and repetitive game experiences in recent years. I tried so hard to see what all the praise is about, but I couldn’t. I’m not sure that I understand this game at all.
